Authorities seize over 5 kg of heroin in Champhai

Aizawl, Jan 25 (UNI) A joint operation by the Excise and Narcotics Department and Assam Rifles on the evening of January 24, 2025, at 6:30 PM, led to the seizure of 5 kg and 73 grams of heroin (440 soap cases) in Chhungte neighbourhood in Champhai, Peter Zohmingthanga, a Spokesperson of the government said on Saturday.
Two individuals identified as Gilbert Lalnunhlima (27), a resident of Bairabi (Rail Crossing) in Kolasib district, and Lalawmpuia (29), a resident of Zemabawk, Aizawl, were apprehended. Additionally, a truck used for transporting the drugs, was confiscated.
Later that same night, another seizure of 23.600 grams of heroin (2 soap cases) was made, leading to the arrest of Rorelkima (27), a resident of Vanhne in Lunglei district. The vehicle used in the transportation, without a registration number, was also seized.
