45 days' timeline set for modalities of united platform in Northeast

Agartala, Nov 6 (UNI) In a significant step towards establishing a distinct identity in national politics, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, Tripura's royal scion and founder of TIPRA Motha, and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, have unveiled a new initiative for regional parties in the Northeast. Pradyot highlighted that indigenous communities have historically aligned with national parties, yet the development of the region and its people remains unsatisfactory, with many feeling treated merely as a vote bank.
He pointed out, "When we look at the socio-economic progress of other regions in India, it's evident that the Northeast is lagging. While we have been accorded the sixth schedule, we haven't received true financial autonomy. Consequently, the flow of funds and the development plans for the autonomous district council areas have proven inadequate. The example of the 125th constitution amendment bill speaks for itself," Pradyot emphasized.
He expressed that both tribal and non-tribal communities in rural areas have been grappling with numerous challenges, including resource mobilization and infrastructure. He remarked, "Certain vested interests continually manipulate ethnic divisions to sow discord among communities for their own benefit, but it's high time we raise a united voice for our region."
