Five arrested for firing at Hotel over extortion demand in Dumka

Dumka, Dec 4 (UNI) The police in Dumka district have arrested five persons in connection with an extortion attempt and subsequent firing at a hotel under the Muffasil police station area. The incident, which occurred after the hotel owner allegedly refused to pay extortion money, had triggered widespread panic across the town.
According to police sources, on November 30, unidentified miscreants demanded money from the owner of a hotel located along the Dumka–Rampurhat main road in Kusumdeeh village. When the owner refused, the accused opened fire with the intent to kill. Following the incident, the hotel operator lodged a written complaint naming eight individuals and mentioning 10–12 unknown persons. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered on December 1 under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act.
Given the seriousness of the matter, Dumka Superintendent of Police constituted a special investigation team led by Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vijay Kumar Mahato. The team included Jama police station in-charge Ajit Kumar, Muffasil police sub-inspectors Nandan Kumar Singh, Niranjan Kumar, Meribina Kisku, technical expert Amit Kumar, and personnel from the armed police force.
