CAG draft report flags fund bungling, fraudulent payment in Odisha school transformation scheme

Bhubaneswar, Sep 5 (UNI) Alleged irregularities perpetrated by the previous BJD government in the High School Transformation Programme have come under the scanner of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), with the premier audit agency unearthing glaring discrepancies, procedural violations, and large-scale fund mismanagement during the implementation of the much-hyped initiative aimed at upgrading government high schools.
Blowing the lid off irregularities in the flagship project of the then Naveen Patnaik-led government, the audit report has pointed to fund misuse amounting to Rs. 90 crore in schools across six districts of Ganjam, Sundargarh, Balasore, Cuttack, Jajpur, and Keonjhar.
A joint physical inspection by the audit squad revealed that e-libraries and science labs created under the 5T High School Transformation Programme (HSTP) were being used for unintended purposes, such as storage rooms or teachers' common rooms, and were not being accessed by students.
