Keonjhar skeleton case sparks uproar in Odisha Assembly, Opposition targets Govt over women’s dignity

Bhubaneswar, Apr 30 (UNI) The shocking Keonjhar woman’s skeleton case triggered a stormy uproar in the special session of the Odisha Assembly on Thursday, overshadowing discussions on women’s participation in Indian democracy as the Opposition BJD and Congress launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led state government.
The Assembly had convened for a special debate on the role and participation of women in Indian democracy, but proceedings were disrupted after Opposition members raised the disturbing incident reported from the Odisha Gramya Bank branch at Mallipasi under Patna block in Keonjhar district earlier this week.
As Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi began his address on women’s empowerment, Congress legislators entered the well of the House holding placards and leaflets, shouting slogans against the government over reports that a man was forced to bring the skeletal remains of his deceased sister to a bank to prove her death and claim her deposit money.
