Mizoram reports no new ASF cases during last 51 days

Aizawl, Feb 13: Mizoram has remained free from African Swine Fever (ASF) casualties and culling of pigs this year, with no new cases reported for the past 51 days as of Thursday.
State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary officials confirmed that no pig deaths or culling incidents have been recorded since December 24, 2023. However, ASF had a devastating impact last year, claiming the lives of 14,950 pigs and necessitating the culling of 24,117 pigs up to December 23.
Officials warned that the risk of an ASF resurgence remains high, particularly as temperatures rise with the onset of pre-monsoon rains. The disease, which has persisted in the state since its first detection in 2021, could flare up again under favourable climatic conditions.
