BCCI rewards WC champions India u-19 women’s team with Rs 5 cr

Mumbai, Feb 3 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of Rs 5 crore for the India under-19 women’s team following their outstanding victory in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 in Malaysia.
The team, led by captain Niki Prasad, successfully defended their title, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament and clinching the crown with a dominant nine-wicket win over South Africa in the final.
The BCCI’s announcement of the cash reward serves as a fitting recognition of the team's exceptional performance, where both batswomen and bowlers showcased immense skill and composure on the global stage.
The squad, alongside their support staff, including Head Coach Nooshin Al Khadeer, has been celebrated for resilience and dominant play throughout the competition.
Standout performances came from Gongadi Trisha, who finished as the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 309 runs, and also claimed the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards. Trisha's allround contributions were matched by excellent bowling displays from spinners Vaishnavi Sharma and Aayushi Shukla, who topped the wicket-takers’ list with 17 and 14 wickets, respectively.
India's victory in both the inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023 and the 2025 underscores the strength of the BCCI’s age-group and grassroots cricket structure, ensuring a continuous flow of talent to the senior national team.
Roger Binny, President, BCCI, shared: "Congratulations to our girls for retaining the U19 Women’s World Cup. Their unbeaten campaign reflects the growth of women’s cricket in India. This trophy is a proud moment for all of us, and I am delighted to see every member shine."
Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, remarked: "This victory showcases their dedication, resilience, and skill. It highlights the strength of India’s grassroots cricket and the bright future of women’s cricket in the country."
Rajeev Shukla, Vice-President, BCCI, said: "Winning back-to-back World Cups is a testament to their discipline and perseverance. This victory will inspire the next generation of young girls across India to dream big."
This remarkable triumph not only adds to India’s legacy in women’s cricket but also reinforces the country’s growing prominence on the global stage. UNI BDN SSP
