Sensex ends historic high at 81,343.46 Pts

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Extending rally for the fourth straight session on Thursday, the BSE Sensex ended life lifetime high, breaching the 81K level at 81,343.46, advancing 626.91 pts on strong global cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 187.85 pts to 24,800.85.

The Sensex opened weak at 80,514.25, sliding 202 pts. It further lost 326 pts at 80,390.37, a day low.

During the day, it erased earlier losses, and zoomed nearly 806 pts at 81,522.55, days high, before closing at 81,343.46, up 626.91 pts from its previous close.

The NSE registered days high and low at 24,837.75 and 24,504.45 pts respectively.

The Investors were optimistic that the IT sector would sparkle after a strong performance in the June quarter, coupled with a weakening rupee.

However, the broader market lagged behind the major indices due to high valuations and sectoral rotation.

The gainers in NSE were L& T by 3.48 pc to Rs 5756, ONGC by 2.99 pc to Rs 332.30, TCS by 2.84 pc to Rs 4297.20 and Wipro by 2.41 pc to Rs 573.20.

The losers were Hero Motocorp by 1.49 pc to Rs 5495, Coal India Ltd by 1.48 pc to Rs 504.85, and Asian paints by 1.40 pc to Rs 2932.

In NSE, total 2791 scrips traded, of which 932 advanced, 1793 declined while 66 remained unchanged.
