Sensex up 875 points; snaps 3-day losing streak

Mumbai, Aug 7 (UNI) Snapping a three-day streak of ending in the red, India’s benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 surged over one per ent on positive global cues and buying in the energy and reality sector shares.

The BSE Sensex surged 875 points to close at 79,468 while the Nifty 50 was up by 305 points to end day at 24,297.50.

Slumping 3000 points in last three sessions, the BSE Sensex opened on a strong note at 79,565.40, up 972 points. During the day, it rose 1046 points to touch day’s high at 79,639.20, before settling at 79,468 up 874.94 points from its last close.

The stocks that glittered were Oil and Gas by 3.75%, Metal by 3.44%, Energy by 3.32% and Capital Goods by 2.89%.

The Mid cap rose by 2.69% and Small cap by 2.39%. In 30-scrips Sensex 25 advanced while 5 declined.

The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities in the cash segment to the tune of Rs 3531 crore and Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought worth Rs 3357 crore in the last trading session, according to data available.

The gainers were Adani Ports by 3.47% to Rs 1545, Powergrid by 3.20% to Rs 351.80, Tata Steel by 2.66% to Rs 154.25, JSW Steel by 2.61% to Rs 907 and Infosys by 2.22% to Rs 1789.45.

The losers were IndusInd Bank by 2.33% to Rs 1347.75, Bharti Airtel by 0.40% to Rs 1437.80, Hind Unilever by 0.33% to Rs 2741.30 and Tech Mahindra by 0.27% to Rs 1479.20.
