India's retail inflation inches up to 3.4pc in March

New Delhi, April 13 (UNI) India's retail inflation slightly inched in March at 3.4 pc compared to 3.21 of February, said government data.
The corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban remained at 3.63 and 3.11pc respectively.
"Year-on-year inflation rate based on All India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for the month of March, 2026 over March, 2025 is 3.87pc (Provisional). Corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban are 3.96 and 3.71 pc respectively," said the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation statement.
Housing inflation for March recorded at 2.11 pc (provisional), and the corresponding rural and urban inflation rate for housing remained at 2.54 and 1.95 pc respectively.
Onion, potato, garlic, arhar, tur, peas, and chickpeas recorded low inflation in March.
Unlike these eatables, Silver Jewellery, Gold/Diamond/Platinum Jewellery , Coconut copra, tomato and cauliflower witnessed high inflation.
Reacting to the slight surge in retail inflation Rajeev Juneja, President of PHDCCI said, "The current headline CPI inflation at 3.40pc, remains broadly aligned with RBI's medium-term price stability objective. The persistence of low prices in transport group and moderate housing inflation suggests that underlying supply-side pressures are contained"
Juneja cautioned that volatility in food components warrant continued policy vigilance as fears of poor monsoon caused by El Nino conditions looms large.

Noel Tata to quit Tata Group co-boards before 70th birthday

Mumbai, May 11 (UNI) Noel Tata, Chairman of the Tata Trusts, is preparing to quit the Tata Group company boards since he is nearing 70, according to senior company officials.
Discussions about potential transitions are already underway with senior executives.
Noel Tata will turn 70 in November this year.
The Tata Group has a governance practice where executives retire from operational roles at 65 and step down from nonexecutive board positions at 70.
