US auto major inks MoU with TN govt to make Next-Gen engine at Chennai facility with Rs 3,250 cr investments

Chennai, Oct 31 (UNI) US Auto major Ford today signed a MoU with the Guidence
Bureau and Investment Promotion to manufacture next gen engine at its facility at
Maraimalainagar near here involving an invesment of Rs 3,250 crore.
The investment, signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin at the State Secretariat, would offer jobs to
600 people, an official release said.
Ford returns to Tamil Nadu with full throttle, Mr Stalin declared after the MoU signing
event by the top company officials and the state government.
Describing it as a powerful comeback that renewed a long and trusted partnership,
as Ford would be investsing Rs. 3,250 crore in Tamil Nadu to set up a Next Gen Engine
Manufacturing Unit at its plant at Maraimalai Nagar, Mr Stalin said this major investment
will build on Tamil Nadu’s robust automobile ancillary ecosystem.
The Ford’s decision to choose India’s automobile capital for production of such futuristic
engines was another testimony for Tamil Nadu’s industrial prowess and its indispensable
position in the global manufacturing supply chain, the Chief Minister said.
Stating that Tamil Nadu was the second largest economyin India and was the leading
states in various fields, including manufacturing ane exports, it said as per the 2024-25
Ecnomic Survey TN has been functioning extremely well in attracting investments and
creating innumuerable jobs, especially for women.
It also said the government has been taking several initiatives to create more employment
opportunities for youth and to attain the target of making TN a USD One Trillor economy
by 2030 by attracting more investments.
In line with these initiatives,Mr Stalin met top officials of Ford during his visit to the US in
September 2024 to attract more invrestment, and requested them to revive their manufacturing
facility at Marimalainagar in adjoining Chengalpattu district near Chennai.
In line with the commitment given it, the Ford group today signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu
government in Mr Stain's presence to manufacture next gen engines involving an investment
of Rs 3,250 crore, the release said.
Later in a post on X, Mr Stain said "Ford returns to Tamil Nadu with full throttle!".
He said "A powerful comeback that renews a long and trusted partnership, as Ford invests

at Maraimalai Nagar. This major investment will create 600 direct jobs and build on Tamil
Nadu’s robust automobile ancillary ecosystem."

Hailing the MoU, Industries Minister TRB Raaja, who was also present in the MoU signing
event, in a social media post, said Ford is officially back to Chennai.
Dr Raaja said true to his style, Mr Stalin did not rest on his laurels and urged Ford to add
more jobs with more products and increase their GCC presence in Chennai too and that
Tamil Nadu was always ready for more.

to Chennai!", the Minister said, sharing photos of the MoU signing event.
