Market ends lower amid selling, Nifty closes below 25,600

New Delhi, Nov 4( UNI) The stock market today ended lower amid brisk selling across the sectors barring telecom and consumer durables, while the Nifty finished below 25,600.
At close, BSE Sensex was down 519.34 points or 0.62 percent at 83,459.15 and the Nifty was down 165.70 points or 0.64pc at 25,597.65.
The BSE Midcap index declined 0.2pc and Smallcap index shed 0.7pc.
The cumulative market capitalisation of firms listed on the BSE dropped to below Rs 470 lakh crore from Rs 472.5 lakh crore in the previous session.
Among the sectors, barring Nifty Consumer Durables which was up 0.39pc, all other indices ended with losses. Nifty Metal and IT indices fell over a percent each, while the Auto index fell by almost a percent. Nifty Bank and Financial Services fell by up to half a percent.
On the Nifty50 index, only eight stocks managed to end in the green. The top gainers were Titan Company, Bharti Airtel, and Bajaj Finance, rising by 1-2pc.
On the losing side, the top losers were Power Grid Corporation, Eternal and Adani Enterprises, falling up to 3pc.
Out of 4,329 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,622 advanced, while 2,540 declined. Some 167 stocks remained unchanged.
As many as 145 stocks hit their 52-week highs in intraday trade while 91 stocks hit their 52-week lows on the BSE.
Those on the highs included SBI, Bharti Airtel, SBI Life Insurance Company, Titan Company, Shriram Finance, Indian Oil Corporation, and BPCL.
While on the lows were KNR Constructions, Clean Science and Technology, Cohance Lifesciences, Delta Corp, H.G. Infra Engineering, Jindal Saw, Quess Corp, and Westlife Foodworld.
Niva Bupa Health shares gained 3.16pc following its Q2 results while Hitachi Energy India also reacted positively to its results, with the stock closing 14pc higher.
Two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp also came under pressure, plunging 4.3pc. Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure also ended lower, losing 7pc and 5pc, respectively.
