New cyber scam in Kerala uses CM’s image to defraud PhonePe users

Thiruvananthapuram, March 11 (UNI) A new financial scam has been detected on social media platforms, which fraudulently uses the photograph of the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to mislead users and extract money.
The scam operates through fake advertisements circulating on Facebook and other platforms, claiming that users can “easily earn Rs12,000 if you have the PhonePe app on your phone.” These ads use the Chief Minister’s image to create a false sense of credibility, prompting unsuspecting users to click on them.
Once the ad is clicked, the PhonePe app automatically opens on the user’s mobile device, displaying a sum of Rs1,499. Users are then asked to enter their UPI PIN to claim the amount.
