New Begonia species named after Arunachal Deputy CM Chowna Mein

Itanagar, Oct 11 (UNI) In a remarkable recognition of his contributions to agricultural and horticultural development in Arunachal Pradesh, a newly discovered Begonia species has been named “Chowna Buku Chulu (Aryarakta)”, meaning “noble red”, in honour of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.
The discovery was made by a research team from the State Horticulture Research and Development Institute (SHRDI), Basar, in Leparada district. The vibrant red-leaf Begonia, found in the region’s natural habitat, symbolizes the spirit of scientific curiosity and discovery.
Expressing gratitude for the honour, Deputy CM Chowna Mein in a social media post today said he was “humbled by the gesture of SHRDI for acknowledging my contribution towards strengthening research and innovation in the agriculture and horticulture sectors of the state.”
