NEHU Pro VC resignation not accepted, says Meghalaya Education Minister

Shillong, Jan 24 (UNI) The union Ministry of Education has not accepted the resignation letter of Prof Sumarbin Umdor as Pro Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong campus, Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said today.
Umdor resigned as Pro Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Shillong campus on December 16, 2025, citing “absence of essential support systems and continued uncertainty surrounding key institutional decision making”.
“Umdor’s resignation has not been accepted and that he should resume his duties in order to bring back a level of functionality to the institute,” Rymbui said.

Elderly man killed in fire mishap in Arunachal’s Simong Village

Itanagar, Feb 12 (UNI) An 80-year-old man lost his life in a tragic fire incident that occurred at Simong village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district on Thursday morning. The fire broke out at around 11 am, reportedly due to a kitchen accident, and completely gutted the residential house of Tabo Danggen. The elderly house owner was unable to escape and succumbed in the blaze. The house was entirely destroyed, official sources said.
