NCP-Sharad Pawar group attacks Maha govt over making Hindi mandatory in Marathi schools

Mumbai, April 18 (UNI) The Sharad Pawar-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) today attacked the Mahayuti-ruled Maharashtra government for making Hindi language mandatory in Marathi schools from Class 1, terming it as a "direct attack" on the linguistic, cultural and educational autonomy of the state.
Spokesperson and Mumbai President youth NCP-SP, Adv Amol Matele, in a media statement, said that, the central government has recently honored Marathi, the mother tongue of Maharashtra, as an "elite language". At such a time, instead of formulating a policy for the promotion of Marathi, the state government is unnecessarily promoting another language.
Expressing strong opposition to this decision, Adv. Matele has sent a clear warning to the Minister of School Education through an e-mail, demanding that this decision should be withdrawn immediately, otherwise a unique agitation will be launched.
