Protest near Jantar Mantar attempt to conceal AAP's potential defeat in Punjab: Harsh Malhotra

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra on Friday said that the people of Delhi and the country are watching everything closely today, and the drama staged near Jantar Mantar and Mumbai on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, in the name of "Protecting the Right to Vote" was not about safeguarding democracy, but a cowardly attempt to conceal the Aam Aadmi Party's potential defeat in Punjab, he added.
Malhotra said that the Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest in collaboration with some communist parties, however, neither the youth nor the ordinary citizens turned up as they were expecting, the BJP leader said. According to Malhotra's claim, the gathering consisted of only 500-600 AAP workers and leaders, who assembled without permission, obstructed traffic, disrupted metro services, and then started crying that "democracy is in danger."
Sharpening his attack, he said that these are the very people who indulged in corruption in Delhi for 10 years, were involved in the liquor scam, and are now levelling allegations against the Election Commission out of fear of defeat. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, some students staged a protest under the banner of the "Cockroach Janata Party." This is the same CJP that was completely rejected by students in campus elections in Chandigarh and Delhi. After securing zero seats, they are now creating a ruckus on the streets, Delhi BJP chief said.
He alleged that all what the AAP is now doing is somehting that is being staged to divert attention from the failures of the AAP government in Punjab, unemployment, and the collapse of law and order. The Bharatiya Janata Party has always stood firm in defending the right to vote. However, the right to vote does not mean that you can spread falsehoods, gather crowds, and attack institutions, Malhotra stated.
He questioned AAP and the so called agitating student bodies, as to why has the drug menace not been curbed in Punjab? Why have the youth not been provided employment? "The people of Delhi have rejected you. Now, the country will reject you as well," Malhotra added. "The BJP stands firmly with the Constitution and democracy, and we strongly condemn these hypocritical protests," he stated.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that the AAP leaders' protest alleging vote theft, levelling accusations against the CEC over the SIR, and seelking resignation are clear signs of political frustration, adding that now it would be better for AAP to focus on curbing alleged corruption within their own government in Punjab, and perhaps then they might manage to win some seats.
