In a post on social media platform X, Modi said, "My heartfelt salutations to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. Through his indomitable courage and valour, he gave a new impetus to the freedom movement. His spirit of sacrificing everything for the honour of the nation is a symbol of the courage and determination of India's youth." The Prime Minister's message highlighted Bhagat Singh's enduring legacy in India's struggle against British colonial rule and his continued influence on generations of young Indians.
Born on September 28, 1907, in Banga, in present-day Pakistan's Punjab province, Bhagat Singh emerged as one of the most prominent figures of the revolutionary movement against British rule. His commitment to India's independence, revolutionary ideas and readiness to make the ultimate sacrifice for the country earned him a lasting place in the nation's collective memory. Bhagat Singh, along with fellow revolutionaries Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, was executed by the British colonial authorities in Lahore on March 23, 1931, when he was just 23 years old.
Their martyrdom became a defining moment in the freedom struggle and inspired countless Indians to dedicate themselves to the cause of independence.
