Kejriwal, family members served notices under Delhi SIR exercise; AAP questions voter roll process

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office has issued notices under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to AAP convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and members of his family, bringing the exercise into the political spotlight.

According to documents related to the Delhi electoral roll revision, Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, son Pulkit Kejriwal and his parents, Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi, figure among voters who have been issued notices, stating they were "unmapped in last SIR". Kejriwal is registered as a voter in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. The notices are part of the SIR process through which electoral records are being scrutinised, and voters whose entries require verification are being asked to provide documents or appear before the election authorities.

The documents show that Kejriwal and his family members are among 110 voters in Part-51, KG Marg, of the New Delhi constituency who have been issued notices. The development comes amid a broader political debate over the revision of Delhi's electoral rolls. The draft roll released during the exercise has seen a substantial reduction in the number of electors, with election authorities identifying entries requiring verification. Reacting to the notices, the Aam Aadmi Party questioned the Election Commission's handling of the exercise.

In a post on X, the party asked how the names of Kejriwal, whom it described as a three-time Delhi chief minister, and his family members could be "missing" from the Delhi voter list. The party also questioned whether the developments were part of a broader process, tagging the Election Commission of India in its post. "Is everything happening in this country just to keep the Supreme Lord happy?" the party posted on X. The notices now require the affected voters to respond as part of the ongoing electoral roll verification process.
