New Delhi, Sep 21 (UNI) The Centre has dissolved the Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the apex body that evolved from the Telecom Commission set up more than three decades ago to deal with various aspects of India's telecommunications sector.
The Ministry of Communications' Department of Telecommunications notified the decision through a resolution dated September 19, 2026, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary today. The resolution said the DCC would stand dissolved with effect from the date of its publication.
The body was originally established as the Telecom Commission on April 11, 1989, through a government resolution to address various aspects of the telecommunications sector. Nearly three decades later, the Telecom Commission was re-designated as the Digital Communications Commission on October 22, 2018, according to the notification. It states, "The Government of India has decided that the Digital Communications Commission be dissolved."
The notification was issued by Devendra Kumar Rai, Joint Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications.
