COAS Dhiraj Seth's Russia visit boosts India-Russia Army cooperation
New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth concluded his three-day official visit to Russia, with discussions on military capability development, training exchanges, artillery modernisation and sharing of operational experience forming the core of his engagements with the Russian military leadership.
The visit, which covered Moscow and St Petersburg, sought to further strengthen Army-to-Army cooperation between India and Russia through high-level military interactions and visits to key Russian defence institutions. In Moscow, General Seth held discussions with General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation. The two sides reviewed avenues for joint capability development, professional military exchanges and expansion of military-to-military engagement. The Army Chief also visited the Headquarters of the Russian Land Forces, where he exchanged views on contemporary military developments and discussed measures to deepen cooperation between the two Armies.
The discussions focused particularly on training, capability enhancement and sharing of professional military experience, reflecting the continued emphasis on institutional-level engagement between the Indian and Russian armed forces. During his visit to St Petersburg, General Seth visited the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy, where he interacted with the faculty on training methodologies and the modernisation of artillery capabilities. As part of his engagements in the historic city, the COAS was also accorded the unique honour of firing the traditional cannon at the historic Peter and Paul Fortress.
In Moscow, General Seth was presented a ceremonial Guard of Honour and paid homage at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, marking the longstanding military ties between the two countries. The visit is expected to provide further momentum to India-Russia defence cooperation, particularly in the areas of professional military exchanges, capability development and training. The Army said the engagements reinforced the enduring trust between India and Russia and underscored the commitment of both sides to sustained military diplomacy, institutional exchanges and mutually beneficial professional cooperation.
