Nasscom urges Karnataka to give interim relief for bike taxis

Bengaluru, Jun 13 (UNI) The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) on Friday submitted a formal representation to Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, seeking immediate relief and a regulatory framework for bike taxi operations in the state.
The appeal comes in the wake of a recent Karnataka High Court judgement prohibiting aggregator-based bike taxi services in Bengaluru effective June 15, citing the absence of a legal framework to govern such services.
In its submission, NASSCOM underscored Karnataka’s leadership in digital innovation and highlighted the importance of tech-enabled mobility solutions in enhancing last-mile connectivity, easing urban congestion, and supporting lakhs of gig workers including students, women, migrants, and those recovering from economic setbacks caused by the pandemic.
To avoid large-scale disruption to livelihoods, the apex IT body has urged the state government to extend the June 15 deadline as an interim relief measure. Simultaneously, it has called for a consultative process to develop a balanced regulatory framework that ensures commuter safety, supports innovation, and fosters inclusive growth.
NASSCOM cited successful policy models from Delhi, Telangana, and Rajasthan, and reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the government in crafting a future-ready mobility policy. UNI BDN SSP
