New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) The true tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee's legacy lies in the nation’s unity, under one flag, one Constitution, and the abolition of Article 370 which granted special status to the Jammu and Kashmir, said Union Minister and BJP president JP Nadda on Monday.

Paying tribute to the founder of Jan Sangh at the BJP headquarters on his death anniversary, Nadda said, “Today, the true tribute to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee is that we all are working in one country, under one flag and one Constitution and Article 370 has been abolished.”

Highlighting the late leader’s contribution to India’s unity, Nadda reiterated Mookerjee's staunch opposition to Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

"Dr. Mookerjee was a strong advocate for a united India and protested against the special status of Jammu and Kashmir," Nadda remarked adding that the late leader made a huge contribution in making present West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam a part of India.

Nadda also raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding Mookerjee’s death in 1953, calling it mysterious. He attributed Mookerjee’s resignation from Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet to ideological differences, specifically the policy of appeasement towards Jammu and Kashmir.

"Due to ideological differences and the appeasement policy of Dr Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee resigned from his cabinet, and later he was among the founding members of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He opposed the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir," Nadda said.

“We all take a pledge today that the way Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee died a mysterious death, under the leadership of BJP and Modi ji, the country should become so powerful and strong that such an incident does not happen again and democracy remains strong.”

In a social media post on X, Nadda paid tribute to Mookerjee as a "blessed son of Mother India" and a pioneer of cultural nationalism. "He dedicated his life for the unity, integrity, and self-respect of India," Nadda wrote. "His ideological and political struggles to keep Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and West Bengal integral parts of India will continue to inspire us."

“To keep the flame of cultural nationalism alive in the country, he presented a new idea in the form of Jan Sangh. His thoughts and works of public service and nation building will always be an inspiration for all countrymen,” Nadda added.
