N Sitharaman holds pre-Budget consultation with agri experts, MSMEs

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) As part of pre-Budget consultation with stakeholders, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held meetings on Friday with representatives from farmer associations and agriculture economists.
Separately, Sitharaman also chaired a pre-budget consultation with representatives from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to gather suggestions for the upcoming General Budget 2024-25.
The Finance Ministry, in a post on 'X', said that Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary and other senior officials of the Ministry were also present during the key meetings.
The Union Budget is expected to be presented in Parliament next month.
Over the past few days, the Finance Minister has had consultation meetings with industry bodies, economists, and experts in financial and capital markets.
In their suggestions for the budget, industry body PHDCCI has suggested 10 reforms to strengthen India’s journey towards 'Viksit Bharat'. It has called for reforms to enhance manufacturing share in GDP to 25% by 2030 and also proposed to expand the PLI (production-linked incentive) scheme beyond the 14 sectors with the addition of more labour intensive sectors.
Another leading industry chamber, Ficci, has stressed the need for continued focus on infrastructure development, taking measures to further boost demand, and taking action steps to contain food inflation.
As the upcoming budget will be the first major policy announcement by the Modi 3.0 government, it is expected that the government will lay the blueprint for making India the third largest economy in the world in the coming years.
