Murshidabad unrest eases as rail, road links resume following migrant worker’s death

Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) Beldanga in Murshidabad district turned into a virtual war zone on Friday as protests over the death of a migrant labourer in Jharkhand spiralled into large-scale disruption, leaving thousands of common people stranded for over five hours before police intervention restored partial normalcy.
Rail and road communication gradually resumed after prolonged talks between the police and protesters.
One Kolkata-bound train and two Lalgola-bound trains departed from stations in Murshidabad, while vehicular movement on National Highway 12 slowly returned to normal. Hundreds of passengers, stuck for nearly five-and-a-half hours, were finally able to continue their journeys.
