Multiple cloudbursts hit Kullu and Rampur; heavy rain wreaks havoc; one dead in Seraj

Shimla/Kullu/Rampur, Aug 13 (UNI) A series of cloudbursts and heavy rain wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh today, triggering flash floods, washing away bridges, damaging infrastructure, and cutting off several villages. One person died in a rain-related mishap in Mandi district.
In Kullu district, a cloudburst around 5:30 pm near Shrikhand Mahadev sent the Kurpan Khad into spate, flooding Bagipul market and prompting urgent evacuations in Bagipul and Kedas. The swollen stream split into two channels, one rushing towards Bagipul and the other towards Ganvi Khad, carrying heavy debris and logs. Quick alerts from Singhagad and Jaon villagers helped authorities move people to safety in time.
In Rampur subdivision’s Nanti–Ganvi belt, another cloudburst caused massive destruction. Two sheds were washed away, six more were flooded and remain at risk, while three houses were silted and one more is under threat. A police post has been marked in the danger zone.
