Modi govt failed to tackle militancy in J&K: Congress

Srinagar, Sep 14 (UNI) The Congress on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Narendra Modi government at the Centre saying that it has failed to tackle the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chairperson, Social Media and Digital Platforms and Congress Working Committee member Supriya Shrinate said the PM has even given up sending tribute or sympathy messages to soldiers killed in attacks, because he wants to “tell the world that everything is alright in Jammu and Kashmir.”

“No it is not alright because militancy that had completely evaporated and vanished in Jammu is back with a vengeance and what are you doing? This is your ( PM’s)failure,” Shrinate said while addressing a press conference in Srinagar.

She said that very big things were said by the present BJP-led NDA government after 2019 – when J&K’s special status was scrapped and the erstwhile state was downgraded into two union territories.

“It was said that after 2019 everything will be peaceful in Jammu and Kashmir. It has been 98 days since Mr. Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of this country.
I am talking about these 98 days. I am not talking about 2019. …In the last 98 days there have been 25 terror strikes in the valley and in Jammu, 25 terrorist attacks, in which 21 of our soldiers were martyred and 28 of our soldiers were injured,” the CWC member said.

Shrinate claimed during this period 15 citizens of Jammu and Kashmir have died in the terrorist attacks and more than 47 were injured.

“Who will answer this? Earlier it was said that Jammu had calmed down and the insurgency and militancy had ended. Only yesterday there was an attack (in Jammu’s Kishtwar district where two soldiers were killed). I want to give my condolences to those two brave soldiers who were martyred in the terror attacks last evening and here no one talks about this,” the Congress leader said.

She said Modi has stopped paying tributes to soldiers killed during action.

“..Since 2019 Narendra Modi has stopped giving any message of condolence to our officers or brave soldiers who were martyred. Our police officers were martyred in Jammu and Kashmir but since 2019 Narendra Modi has not uttered a single word of condolence in Jammu and Kashmir…. See Narendra Modi's media and social media and see if he has even spoken of any single attack ( in the last 98 days).
The least you can do is pay homage to the supreme sacrifice that our forces, our police forces are making in Jammu and Kashmir but you have chosen not to do that because you want to tell the world that everything is alright in Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.

The Congress leader said it was for the first time in the history of free India that a state was dismembered and made a Union Territory.

The CWC member also hit out at the union government that why are they not restoring the Statehood now.

“This is the promise of Congress that our government will come and restore the Statehood of Jammu and Kashmir because this is something you rightfully deserve. This is your right,” she said.

Shrinate also leveled serious charges of corruption by the Central government in the last 10 years.
