Mobile phone, narcotics seized during surprise raid in Kapurthala Modern Jail

Phagwara, Jun 13 (UNI) A surprise search operation conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Kapurthala Modern Jail has led to the recovery of prohibited items, including a mobile phone and narcotics, an official said on Friday.
The search was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Jail Superintendent Baldev Singh, targeting the barracks of inmates and under-trials. During the operation, officials discovered an unclaimed mobile phone and approximately 36 grams of an unidentified narcotic substance concealed in the bathroom of Room No 3.
Jail authorities promptly confiscated the items and informed senior prison officials as well as the Kotwali police station. Based on a formal complaint filed by the prison administration, the Kotwali police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Prisons Act.

Three security guards found dead in Badaun mentha factory; suffocation suspected

Badaun, Jan 13 (UNI) Three security guards were found dead inside a room of a mentha factory in Badaun district on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deaths were caused by suffocation after the guards allegedly burned coal in a brazier (angithi) to keep warm and went to sleep with the room locked from inside.

Himachal HC records nearly 90 Pc productivity despite vacancies

Shimla, Jan 13 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh High Court achieved a productivity rate of nearly 90 per cent in 2025 despite functioning with five judges short of its sanctioned strength, reflecting a sustained push for faster and more effective justice delivery.
Official data shows that the High Court had a pendency of 93,942 cases as of January 1, 2025. During the year, 81,092 fresh cases were instituted, while 72,981 matters were disposed of. Pendency consequently rose to 1,02,053 cases by the end of the year, but the clearance rate stood at a notable 89.99 per cent.
