MNS Leader Bala Nandgaonkar Slams Defections, Questions EVM Voting

Mumbai, June 17 (UNI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Bala Nandgaonkar on Wednesday strongly deprecated the political moves surrounding the alleged "Operation Tiger," saying that the ongoing trend of party defections is "harmful to democracy and disrespectful to voters".
Speaking to mediapersons, Nandgaonkar said that candidates contest elections on the symbol and ideology of a particular party, and voters cast their ballots based on those principles. Therefore, when elected representatives switch parties after winning, it not only insults the party they were elected from but also disregards the mandate of lakhs of voters.
He accused the BJP of encouraging political splits and weakening opposition parties. According to Nandgaonkar, the country's political atmosphere has become so uncertain that leaders are constantly worried about retaining their legislators and MPs.
