Mizoram signs peace pact with HPC-D (Sanate faction)

Aizawl, April 14 (UNI) Mizoram government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Settlement with the Hmar People’s Convention–Democratic (Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction), bringing to a close decades of insurgency linked to the group.
The agreement was formally signed at Vengpui Community Hall in Sakawrdai, with Home Department Secretary David Lalthantluanga representing the Government of Mizoram, and Lalhmingthanga Sanate signing on behalf of the outfit. The ceremony was attended by Adviser to the Chief Minister (Political) Lalmuanpuia Punte and DIG (Northern Range) Rodingliana Chawngthu, among other officials.
Addressing the gathering, Punte described the accord as a long-awaited corrective step, noting that insurgencies often arise from a sense of neglect and lack of development. He expressed confidence that the agreement, backed by sustained “homework” and commitment from both sides, would pave the way for tangible development in the region.
