Mizoram launches biometric enrolment of over 34,000 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh

Aizawl, Aug 3 (UNI) Biometric registration of refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh is now underway across all 11 districts of Mizoram, with state home department officials confirming that the process began in the final days of July. According to official estimates, more than 32,000 refugees from Myanmar and over 2,000 from Bangladesh are to be enrolled.
District administrations began rolling out the biometric exercise on varying dates—some initiated the process on July 28 and 29, while most districts launched it between July 30 and 31, officials from across the state told this newspaper.
Champhai district, which shares a border with Myanmar and currently shelters the largest number of Myanmar nationals at 13,586, encountered technical difficulties when it attempted to begin the enrolment on Thursday. However, district officials expressed confidence that operations would proceed smoothly from Monday onwards.
