Ministry of Education confers ‘Deemed to be University’ status upon Hyderabad-based IIPH along with Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru

Hyderabad, July 14 (UNI) The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) today announced that the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH), Hyderabad—along with its sister institutions in Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru-—has been granted the prestigious status of a “Deemed to be University” under a distinct category by the Ministry of Education.
This recognition, formally notified via Gazette of India recently, marks a seminal moment in the evolution of public health education, research, and policy development in India, the foundation said in a release here.
The conferment of university status upon the IIPHs heralds a new chapter for public health in India—enabling evidence-driven education, policy innovation, and community-centred health leadership. It represents not just a recognition of past achievements, but a renewed institutional mandate to shape the future of health for all.
