Militant killed in ongoing encounter in Handwara

Srinagar, Mar 17 (UNI) Security forces shot dead an unidentified militant in an ongoing encounter in the Handwara sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The gunbattle erupted on Monday between militants and security forces in the Krumhoora Zachaldara forest area during a cordon and a search operation which was launched by joint forces following an input about militant presence in the area.

"So far one terrorist has been killed," official sources said, adding that the operation is underway.
Police are yet to confirm the killing.
This is the first encounter in nearly two months in Kashmir. The last gunfight occurred on January 20-21 in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, where a soldier was killed. The militants, however, managed to escape from the area.
