Meghalaya CM urges youth to compete globally

Shillong, Jan 19 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday encouraged youth to actively engage with state government schemes focused on youth development, skill-building and entrepreneurship.
He said these initiatives provide platforms and opportunities to help them compete in an increasingly competitive world.
“The youth are the most critical section of our society, and traditional youth organisations like the Seng Samlas (youth organisations) are important not just for the future, but also for the present of our state,” Sangma said while inaugurating a Khasi traditional mural at Rymbai Fuel Station in Mawlai Mawiong Rim to mark 20 years of service by Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun, a prominent local youth organisation.

Accused arrested in double murder case within 36 hours

Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping stepdaughter

Agartala, Feb 14 (UNI) A 52-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special POCSO court in West Tripura for raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter in April 2024 in the Mandai area on the eastern outskirts of Agartala.
Special Public Prosecutor Jayanta Chowdhury said that the court ruled that the convict will remain behind bars for the remainder of his natural life. In addition to life imprisonment, the convict was fined Rs 5,000.

Over 6 61 lakh voter names set to be dropped as SIR hearings end in Bengal

Kolkata, Feb 14 (UNI) The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearings of electoral rolls in West Bengal concluded on Saturday after 50 days, with the Election Commission of India estimating that 6.61 lakh voter names may be deleted, most of them linked to nearly 5 lakh voters who failed to appear for hearings.
