Meerut man suspected of Al-Qaeda links; ATS launches manhunt

Meerut, Jan 21 (UNI) A man from Meerut, identified as Mohammad Ujaid Qureshi, has come under the scanner of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Jammu & Kashmir Police over alleged links to a terrorist network inspired by Al-Qaeda.
Investigating agencies on Wednesday claimed that Qureshi was actively involved in a WhatsApp group where plans for a suicide (fidayeen) attack on Indian security forces were allegedly discussed.
According to officials, the WhatsApp group was recently uncovered by security agencies, leading to the arrest of one of its members in Jammu & Kashmir. Examination of the arrested individual’s chat history revealed discussions related to attacks on security forces and other anti-national activities, prompting a wider probe into the network.
