Mckenna Grace cast as Daphne in Netflix’s live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series

Los Angeles, Feb 18 (UNI) McKenna Grace is set to star as a young Daphne Blake in Netflix’s upcoming live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series, according to Variety. The show will explore the origins of Mystery Inc. and how the beloved gang first came together.
Netflix ordered the eight-episode series in March 2025. The project is described as a modern reimagining of the classic animated franchise.
The official logline states, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Grace is no stranger to the character. She previously voiced a young Daphne in the 2020 animated film Scoob! and was expected to return for its prequel, Scoob! Holiday Haunt, before the project was shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery.
She has also portrayed younger versions of key characters in projects such as Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and films including Captain Marvel and I, Tonya, according to Variety.
In 2021, Grace earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Her television credits also include The Young and the Restless, The Haunting of Hill House, Young Sheldon, and Designated Survivor. On the big screen, she has appeared in Gifted, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
The series is written and executive-produced by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who will serve as showrunners. André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner will also executive produce under their Midnight Radio banner.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman are executive producing via Berlanti Productions, with Warner Bros. Television producing. Berlanti Productions operates under an overall deal at WBTV, which controls the rights to the Hanna-Barbera characters, as per Variety.
The franchise has previously been adapted into live-action formats, most notably the 2002 film Scooby-Doo, starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini, with Neil Fanning voicing Scooby. The film grossed over USD 250 million worldwide.
Its sequel, ‘Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed’ (2004), earned more than $180 million globally. Additional live-action adaptations include the TV films Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins (2009) and its 2010 sequel.
Since its debut in the late 1960s, ‘Scooby-Doo’ has spawned numerous animated series and films, cementing its status as one of the most enduring franchises in pop culture. UNI MI SSP
