Married daughter also entitled to compassionate appointment: HC

Nagpur, July 15 (UNI): In a significant judgment reinforcing the principles of gender equality, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has ruled that a married daughter of an employee is also entitled to be considered for compassionate appointment and that her marital status cannot be a ground for disqualification.
A Division Bench comprising Justices Y. G. Khobragade and Sushil Ghodeswar stated that a married daughter continues to remain an integral part of her parental family. Therefore denying her a compassionate job solely on technical ground that she is married amounts to open gender discrimination,as clarified in the judgement.
The case arose from a writ petition filed by Tanuja Zade, a married resident of Tadali village in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, seeking compassionate appointment in Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) following the death of her father.
