Maoist Bharat Bandh: High alert on Telangana-Chhattisgarh border

Hyderabad, June 10 (UNI) Security forces have been put on a high alert along the borders of Telangana-Chhattisgarh following 'Bharat bandh' called by Maoists on Tuesday.
A cordon and search operation is being conducted in Venkatapuram and Vajedu mandals of Naxalite-affected Mulugu district and also in district of Bhadradri-Kothagudem in Telangana.
The police have issued a warning to people not to cooperate with the Maoists.
Security forces are conducting a massive combing operation following intelligence inputs that Maoists may carry out attacks.
CPI (Maoist) Party Central Committee spokesperson Abhay called for ‘Bharat Bandh’ condemning the killing of the party's central committee general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju in an encounter in Chhattisgarh on May 21.
The Maoist party has declared May 21 as a "dark day" in the history of the Indian revolutionary movement. The party decided to conduct memorial meetings in honour of the slain Maoists from June 11 to August 3 across the country to condemn the encounter and protest against ‘Operation Kagar’.
Five Left parties earlier in a joint appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged him to put an immediate halt to the ‘extra-judicial’ killings in the region around Chhattisgarh under Operation Kagar.
They also urged the Centre to respond to the Maoist declaration of unilateral ceasefire and initiate a dialogue to resolve all issues.
