Manipur Observes World Mental Health Day, Focuses on Access to Services During Crises

Imphal, Oct, 10 (UNI) Reaffirming its commitment to promoting mental health and well-being, Manipur today joined the global observance of World Mental Health Day 2025 under the theme “Access to Services — Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” The event was jointly organised by the National Mental Health Programme, National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur, and the Directorate of Health Services at Hotel Imolesh, Old Lambulane Road, Imphal.
Speaking at the event, Sumant Singh, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), Government of Manipur, reflected on the unseen yet profound influence of the human mind, describing it as “a strange fact of life” that guides all actions yet remains intangible. Quoting Gautama Buddha’s saying “Manopubbangama Dhamma,” he said the mind is the forerunner of all things and leads all actions and thoughts.
The Commissioner observed that while the mind shapes every aspect of human life, people often neglect it, focusing instead on external concerns. Highlighting the symptoms of depression, he noted that many individuals suffer silently and withdraw from social contact. He urged people to overcome inertia by taking positive action, emphasising that “one must shape their feelings and moods through action and not the other way around.”
