Manipur Governor leads 150 years of Vande Mataram commemoration

Imphal, Nov 7 (UNI) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Friday graced the Commemoration of 150 Years of Vande Mataram held at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, Imphal. The event, organised by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, was attended by several MLAs, senior government officials, and distinguished guests.
In his address, the Governor described Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, as “not merely a song but a powerful expression of love and reverence for the motherland.” He recalled its pivotal role during India’s freedom struggle, when it became the rallying cry for unity and resistance against colonial rule.
Highlighting its enduring significance, Bhalla said that when the Constituent Assembly adopted Vande Mataram as the national song in 1950, it was in recognition of its profound contribution to shaping the nation’s identity and spirit.
