Manipur crackdown: Militant arrested, drugs seized, poppy fields destroyed

Imphal, Feb 7 (UNI) Security forces intensified operations across Manipur on Friday, arresting militants and drug traffickers while also destroying large tracts of illegal poppy cultivation in hill districts. In a major counter-insurgency operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of a proscribed outfit in Imphal East.
In a separate anti-narcotics operation, security forces intercepted a four-wheeler at Lilong Alia Lamkhai under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district. The occupant, Md. Abbas Ahamed, was arrested along with a large quantity of contraband. Items recovered from his possession included 1.543 kg of brown sugar and the intercepted four-wheeler.
Meanwhile, continuing the crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation, a combined team of security forces and the Forest Department destroyed 80 acres of illicit poppy plantation at the Sihai hill range under Ukhrul Police Station in Ukhrul district. During the operation, ten huts found at the plantation sites were burnt and destroyed.
