Man held for theft found dead in Kala Amb lock-up; two cops suspended

Shimla, June 23 (UNI) A man arrested on theft charges in Kala Amb area of Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district was found dead inside the police lock-up on Sunday, triggering a magisterial inquiry and departmental action against two police personnel.
The deceased, 36-year-old Ajay Kumar from Haryana, had been taken into custody on Saturday and remanded to police custody by a local court. Within 24 hours, he was discovered hanging inside the lock-up under suspicious circumstances, officials confirmed.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate reached the spot to conduct an inquiry, and the matter has also been reported to the State Human Rights Commission.
In the aftermath of the custodial death, two police personnel were suspended for negligence and transferred to the Home Guards Department.
Police said the exact circumstances behind Kumar's death are under investigation.
