Mamit district protestors block roads over deplorable highway conditions, fuel shortages hit Mizoram

Aizawl, Oct 16 (UNI) In a major protest over the deteriorating road conditions, several prominent civil society groups and the Commercial Vehicle Owners Association in Mamit district today launched an indefinite road blockade along three key highways connecting the region.
The blockade, which began at 7 am, targets the Mamit-Aizawl, Mamit-Kolasib, and Mamit-Tripura routes, crucial arteries for transportation in the district bordering Bangladesh and Tripura.
The road blockades were organised due to the extremely poor state of the roads, which have long been a source of hardship for the residents and commercial vehicle operators in the area. Despite efforts from Mamit District Deputy Commissioner K. Laltlawmlova and Engineer-in-Chief of the state PWD H. Zoramliana to negotiate with the protesting groups, the blockade went ahead as planned.
