Mamata hopes successful talks at foreign secretary level meeting

Mamata hopes successful talks at foreign secretary level meeting

Kolkata, Dec 9 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed her optimism for successful talks between the Indian Foreign Secretary and his Bangladesh counterpart amid growing tension between the two neighbouring nations.
Indian foreign secretary Vikram Misry on Monday morning reached Dhaka and held talks with his Bangladesh counterpart Md Jasim Uddin to iron out any differences between the two countries over the current
political situation.
Addressing in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Banerjee whilst expressing hope for fruitful talks between two foreign secretary level talks at the same time condemned alleged threats from former Bangladeshi army personnel.
She hoped peace returned early. She also underlined India's commitment to secularism and democracy.
She said she would not comment anything much as India has its own foreign policy and it has BSF guarding in the borders.
She pointed out that there is air and rail connectivity and people with valid documents are moving across the border.
" We are on either side as India has its own foreign policy and we will abide by the Central government decision," Banerjee said.
She called upon the people not to be provoked and urged to create an atmosphere so that it could be an example for all for brotherhood and compassion. She also urged to defeat divisive forces and live together with all faiths.
Banerjee condemned a section of alleged threats from former Bangladesh army personnel and said " don't think we will chew lollipops in the face of threats to take our Bangla, Bihar and Odisha."
