Mahashivratri observed with religious fervour in Bengal

Kolkata, Feb 15 (UNI) With lakhs of people, particularly women, queing up before Shiva temples to offer puja, Mahashivratri was observed in West Bengal with usual enthusiasm and religious fervour on Sunday.
In Belur Math, the global headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Mahashivratri was celebrated with due solemnity. The bramhacharis dressed as Lord Shiva danced as a part of His worship. Many people poured water on the Shiva linga at Swami Vivekananda's ancestral house. Women stood in long queues to offer puja to Lord Shiva.
In Dakshineshwar the Shiva temples were decorated with flowers and lights. There are twelve Shiva temples - six on each side and each idol has a different name - in the Dakhineshwar temple complex.
