Maharashtra to lease fallow land to SHGs, give Rs1 lakh grant per group

Mumbai, June 16 (UNI) In a major boost to rural livelihoods and women's empowerment, the Maharashtra government has announced an ambitious scheme to lease fallow government land to women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that under this new policy, eligible women’s SHGs will be allotted one hectare (approximately 2.5 acres) of vacant revenue department land on a five-year lease. Additionally, each SHG will receive a financial grant of Rs 1 lakh to initiate productive activities.
The primary goal of the initiative is to ensure the productive use of barren and encroached government land while simultaneously creating sustainable employment for rural women. SHGs can utilize this land for fodder cultivation, bamboo plantation, Napier grass farming, or grassland development.
