Maharashtra tightens school bus regulations, massive crackdown on safety violations begins

Mumbai July 18 (UNI) In a landmark move to ensure the safety of millions of school-going children, the Maharashtra state government has officially implemented its new School Bus Policy, effective from Saturday. The policy introduces rigorous mandates for school administrations, bus operators, and transport contractors, signalling a zero-tolerance approach toward those who compromise student safety. Any violation of these protocols will now invite direct criminal proceedings against the responsible parties.
Under the new guidelines, every school bus and transport van must be equipped with advanced security technology to ensure real-time oversight. Parents will now be able to track their child’s commute in real-time from the comfort of their homes.
Mandatory onboard equipment includes GPS-based vehicle location tracking for constant monitoring of the vehicle’s route and status, CCTV camera for surveillance inside the vehicle, emergency panic buttons, fire detection sensors and safety seatbelts for every passenger seat.
