Maha: Parliamentary Panel touts 97 percent govt acceptance rate for fiscal proposals

Mumbai, June 24 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla revealed on Tuesday that parliamentary recommendations have achieved unprecedented government adoption, announcing that 97 percent of over 1,000 reports submitted by the Estimates Committee across 75 years have been implemented.
Addressing the national conference of the Estimates Committee, he emphasised the committee's critical role in enforcing fiscal discipline, administrative transparency, and accurate budgetary forecasting.
"The Committee stands as a cornerstone of effective governance," Birla stated before 109 state/union territory representatives and 22 parliamentary delegates.
He highlighted landmark recommendations on climate action, green energy transition, Bharatmala infrastructure, AIIMS expansion and electric vehicle policy that shaped national priorities.
The two-day conference featured intensive deliberations on budget formulation, fund utilisation efficiency, and technological integration in legislative functions.
Delegates advocated for AI-driven systems, enhanced data analytics, and expanded committee membership to strengthen oversight.
Six key resolutions were unanimously adopted, including enhanced budgetary control mechanisms, systematic implementation tracking of recommendations, specialised training programmes for members, centralised knowledge-sharing platform, regular administrative expenditure audits, improved centre-state fiscal coordination.
Notable attendees included Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Estimates Committee Chairman Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Prof Ram Shinde, Assembly Speaker Advocate Rahul Narvekar, State Estimates Committee Chairman Arjun Khotkar, alongside secretaries Utpal Kumar Singh (Lok Sabha), P C Modi (Rajya Sabha), and Jitendra Bhu (Assembly).
Birla confirmed procedural reforms would follow to amplify legislative effectiveness nationwide.
