Maha: Minister orders to prepare comprehensive state policy on silt removal from dams

Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) Water Resources (Godavari and Krishna Basin Development Corporation) Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil on Wednesday directed that a new comprehensive state policy should be prepared by conducting a comparative study of the policies of Maharashtra vis-a-vis other states in regard to silt removal from dams.
Speaking at a meeting held at Mantralaya regarding current status of action to be taken regarding silt removal from dams as well as technology related to sand and soil separation, he said that while revising the policy of Maharashtra for silting up the dams, a thorough and comparative study should be conducted to incorporate the issues taken up in the policies of other states in the country in this regard and into the Maharashtra state policy and a report should be submitted within a week.
Vikhe-Patil said that the state government has decided on six projects in the state on a pilot basis for silting up the dams, including Ujani in Solapur district, Girna in Nashik district, Gosikhurd in Bhandara district, Jayakwadi in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, Mula in Ahilyanagar district and Hatnur project in Jalgaon district, he added.
