Maha: Minister clarifies govt's stand on Hindi

Mumbai, June 23 (UNI) Maharashtra Minister Advocate Ashish Shelar clarified on Monday that the government has not made Hindi compulsory as a third language in the schools but categorically stated that only Marathi is compulsory in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that Hindi has not been made compulsory as a third language in the state from class 1 but the government has removed mandatory Hindi from class 5 to 8 and made Hindi as an alternative optional language and has provided other options.
"Therefore, the discussions currently going on in the state are unreasonable and unrealistic. We are staunch supporters of Marathi and are staunch supporters of the interests of students," added Adv Shelar.
